McQueens Flowers Feature


2019 was a year of firsts for McQueens Flowers - from exhibiting at RHS Chelsea to McQueens Flowers School achieving ASIC accreditation to officially going international in Seoul and New York. The busy year was topped off with a particularly significant accolade as the company was honoured to receive a Positive Luxury Butterfly Mark. The meaningful award acknowledges McQueens’ commitment to sustainable practices within the flower industry. Therefore when we were approached by NET-A-PORTER to take part in the NET SUSTAIN campaign, it was a project that aligned with both our creativity and ethos.
NET SUSTAIN is a curated platform, devised by the luxury online retailer is a curated platform, devised by the luxury online retailer to highlight and celebrate the brands sold on site that meet the business’ criteria for sustainability, offering customers a way to identify those brands and products more easily. To celebrate the next phase of this considered campaign, NET-A-PORTER collaborated with McQueens Flowers to create a series of portraits - inspired by the work of artists, Lewis Miller. McQueens’ Creative Lead, Alison Lythgoe was briefed to design a floral backdrop from recycled flowers and materials, reducing waste and creating a second life, resulting in spectacular floral art pieces.
Reducing wastefulness is a key objective within our recently published CSR plan, therefore constructing a backdrop from recycled materials for the campaign meant we could demonstrate just some of the ways in which we can repurpose flowers.

The team gathered a beautiful collection of materials from flowers returning to the studio from various events and installs and assembled these using only sustainable practices (no floral foam) to create a spectacular floral art piece, seen within the spectacular portraits, shot by Samuel Bradley
