At McQueens Flowers, we tell stories through flowers – and on your wedding day, it’s all about yours.
With weddings back on and dates filling up quickly our events team have never been busier working with couples to plan their dream blooms for the many ceremonies taking place over the coming months. With time being of the essence more than ever, a frequently asked question that many of our clients ask is, “what the best way is to prepare for a wedding flower consultation?”. Today, it is our pleasure to share our expert tips on what you can do to ensure you and your florist make the most of your time together, planning the most spectacular, seasonal blooms for your big day.

Key information

All floral wedding consultations will kick off with the need-to-know details, not only are these essential but documenting all of the key information first allows you the rest of the meeting to talk about the fun part – flowers!

Helpful information to prepare for this includes:

• Date of wedding
• Venue(s) and best point of contacts
• Wedding planner and contact details
• Wedding party – couple, bridesmaids, best men, mother and fathers of couple etc.
• Number of guests
• Itinerary – reception, ceremony, drinks and canapes, dinner, dancing etc.
• Seating arrangements for the ceremony
• Table numbers and shapes e.g. round tables, banquet tables, etc.

This information will be both helpful for your florist to understand what floral designs you are likely to need, but it will also help later down the line when it comes to liaising with planners and venue to ensure all goes smoothly on the day – meaning you can relax and enjoy yourself, knowing all is in hand.

The Flowers

Some clients will arrive brimming with mood boards full of inspiration, and others are very much open to suggestion. Whichever end of the scale you rest on, there is no right or wrong when it comes to how much or little you should prepare for this part. Our experienced Weddings team will help you identify what flowers and colours will make your heart sing! Some useful starting points include:

• A preferred colour scheme
• Your favourite flower(s)
• Inspirational photos of flowers or flower gardens
• What you will be wearing
• The interior decoration or architecture of the venue
• Or very simply, your story.

At McQueens Flowers, we tell stories through flowers – and on your wedding day, it’s all about yours. Sometimes, this is inspired by the first song you danced to together or the place where you were engaged. Perhaps your favourite flower reminds you of home, perhaps it reminds you of your family. Whatever it is that inspires you, we’re here to bring your story to life.

Booking a Consultation

Booking a wedding flower consultation at McQueens Flowers is easy, simply reach out to our lovely team on events@mcqueensflowers.com to set up a time and date for an initial call. If you can, include as much of the information above to help your florist prepare ahead beforehand.

What to expect from your consultation process

Step one

A phone call, video call, or face-to-face consultation to discuss your wedding flowers and inspiration. This can take as little as 30 minutes or up to an hour or more, depending on the scale of the event. Sometimes we will schedule in extra time for occasions that require further planning.

Step two

You will receive a beautiful floral mood board and a detailed quote based on all that was discussed during your consultation. This is our opportunity to make sure we have captured your vision perfectly and to make any further adjustments if needed.

Sometimes, it helps to have samples made following this stage, which we are delighted to offer at 50% of the RRP of each design. For unique, large-scale florals and bespoke creations, we can also offer the services of our in-house illustrator to visualise your designs. Prices quoted on request.

Step three

Once we’re happy with the designs we can go ahead and book your wedding with a 20% deposit, leaving 80% to be settled between the date of booking and up to a month prior to the wedding.

Step four

Relax as we arrange the rest! Including liaising with all the relevant parties such as event planners, venues, cake makers etc. to ensure all goes smoothly on the big day. The next time you see us, we will likely be delivering your personal flowers to you ahead of the ceremony, where it will be our absolute pleasure to wish you all the very best on your special day.
