Mid-summer is merely days aways and tell-tale signs of a new season linger, from long, light days and ever so slightly warmer climbs to picnics and alfresco fun. The most fantastical symbols of summer though, for us, are of course in flower form! Up and down the country from gardens to parks, verges to professional flower beds - a cornucopia of varieties are coming into magnificent bloom. Today marks the start of an official celebration to honour these homegrown beauties.
British Flowers Week - now in its 8th year is a week-long campaign championed by New Covent Garden Flower Market celebrating British flowers and foliage. The 15th June also marks the first day of the Flower Market reopening since lock measures were put in place earlier this year.
This year the team behind British Flowers Week are calling for support by asking the nation to get behind the campaign by creating British Flowers Week windows. Get creative whether it’s placing a carefully crafted jug of garden roses, an urn of wild meadow favourites or perhaps an illustration of your dream floral window. Whichever form your display takes - be sure to share on social media using #BritishFlowersWeek, #NewCoventGardenMarket and tag @MarketFlowers
Throughout the week via Instagram and here on the journal, we’ll be shining a spotlight on British flowers - from the best varieties to use for weddings to our teams all-time favourite stems and special suppliers.
